Desert Bloom for Energy Telemarketing
What began as a transplant experiment 18 months ago has finally reached full bloom. The Las Vegas office of AGR posted back-to-back, record-breaking sales weeks around the holidays, beating the other more established call centers in a friendly competition.
In July 2010, longtime manager Jose Rubio left AGR’s California headquarters for a new beginning in the desert. As newly appointed Executive Director in Las Vegas, he began his operation with just five hand picked employees from the other centers, making outbound calls on behalf of one client.
“We certainly had our growing pains,” Rubio said. “Operating and recruiting employees in Las Vegas certainly presents its challenges, given all the potential distractions. But it also presents a great opportunity. I sometimes can’t believe how far we’ve come.”
Las Vegas now has 185 employees, providing energy telemarketing services to five clients. It runs morning, evening and Saturday shifts, and Rubio has eyes on further expansion.
“We’re grown our own office culture here,” he says. “To identify people willing and able to lead others, promote them accordingly, and mentor them in their personal development has been very satisfying. Once we got that infrastructure and support system in place, we were ready to take on the big boys.”
AGR Group conducts an annual competition between the call centers which culminates at the annual party in (of all places), Las Vegas. With its two record-breaking weeks around the holidays, the home team edged out California and Florida to win a mini sprint game.
